Laspotech mass communication department records mass failure

Part time students of the mass communication department, Lagos state polytechnic (Laspotech) are set to go head to head with the school authorities over the recently released result for the department's final year student where most of them failed woefully.

What annoyed the students mostly was that, a previous result had already been released and the students were still trying to come in terms with the result when the school authorities took back the result and released a more deteriorating result.


Some students accused the school authorities of desperately looking for more money and therefore devised a way to fail students so that they can pay extra money and come back to re-write the exams. The students also accused the school management of deliberately removing all the marks added to their scores by their various lecturers after marking, a situation which has resulted in mass failure and extra year for them.

Below are some of the complaints made by student in the department

“I was a little bit above upper credit before, but now that they have removed all the marks added, I have been relegated to lower credit while those who were having distinction fell to upper credit and those who were on lower crashed down to pass and those who were already celebrating that they graduated with pass now have to come and repeat and pay for extra year which has always been the target of the school.”

Tayo, another student of the institution, put the blame on his coordinator whom he claimed failed to intercede on behalf of the students.

He said: “when things like this happen, it is expected of the coordinator of the department to speak for his students. It is quite sad that the leadership and management of Lagos State Polytechnic under Mr. Abdulazeez Abioye Lawal, whom we thought was student-friendly did this to us at the tail end of his tenure.

“He is getting things wrong pertaining to the result of students in School of part-time regular studies ND3, 2014 set.

“As one of the aggrieved students who was affected by the new result released, I think it is a shame on the part of the management of the school to release two different results, its shows that the school is not well organised."

It was later discovered that the ND 3 students of mass comm in Laspotech has over 257 students, meanwhile merely 131 students graduated
