A hotel security guard, Azeez Ibrahim, has shot
dead a female undergraduate of Babcock University, Busayo Ogunkoya,
during a birthday party in a hotel in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
It was a case of confusion as 22-year-old Busayo got killed by the
gunshot from Azeez who happened to be a guard at Mambillah Hotel where
the deceased and some her friends went to have a time-out 2 Saturdays
ago. According to Punch, the female undergraduate was at the partyof her boyfriend’s friend before she got killed by the guard.
Although reports said he was drunk at the moment of the incident, Azeez revealed that he seized the gun from robbers, and it was in the process of checking it out that he mishandled the gun and fired a bullet which hit the young undergraduate.
However, Policemen from the Owutu Division arrived the scene on time to arrest the guard, the assistant manager of the hotel and the victim’s boyfriend as it was later revealed that the victim did not even know the person having a party but only followed his boyfriend there. The 22-year-old was confirmed dead at a nearby private hospital where she was quickly rushed to after she was shot.
The popular hotel, according to residents, has been on a very silent tune since the event. The usual bustle and loud music that characterize the day to day activities of the hotel has stopped which made many to note that the action of the guard who is a landlord around the area was unintentional but from unseen evil vices pushing the guard.
Although the manager of the company claimed he’s been trying to
settle the issue with the family of the young undergraduate, the Deputy
Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, an Assistant
Superintendent of Police, however, confirmed the incident saying it had
been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba,
for investigation.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police also expressed his dismay as to why the guard, who one of his tenants described as a very good landlord, could have gotten himself into such act. It could be recalled that just recently, a student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), was shot in the head by suspected cultists during an attack.
