Popular Cleric Urges Catholics To Pray For Politicians

A popular cleric in Nsukka, Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina, has urged catholic faithfuls in the country to always pray for politicians, especially the 2015 general elections. Rev. Obodoechina, who is the Administrator of St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka, made the remarks in Nsukka on Sunday, 20 July, 2014, during the Church service, saying that constant prayers to God would ensure victory for only those who had the country’s interest at heart in 2015.
According to the priest, the best thing Nigerians could do right now is to pray to God.
He also stated that now is not the time for people to sit down and be complaining all the time, saying such altitude will not solve the challenges Nigeria
is facing at the moment.
“As we pray, we should also remember to play our part by voting candidates of our choice during the elections,” Rev. Obodoechina said.

The cleric also congratulated the people of Nsukka as the Enugu State governorship had been zoned to Nsukka District.
He urged politicians from Nsukka to put their selfish interest and political differences aside, so as to select the best candidate who would take the state to enviable height.
Obodoechina said that the consensus person should be God-fearing and had good track record of excellent performance.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the 2015 general elections would commence in February.
With few months before the elections, a lot of people have been warning against political crisis in the country, as tension continues to grow between the major political parties in the country, PDP and APC.
Only few days ago, the association of witches and wizards in Nigeria warned against eruption of political crisis after the 2015 polls. At the same time, the body predicted that incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan would be re-elected by Nigerians for another tenure. It also stated that the leader of APC, Bola Tinubu would be betrayed by his trusted allies come 2015.
However, it should be noted that President Jonathan has not yet declared his intention to enter the presidential race. But many political analysts are of the opinion that Jonathan would declare his intention to rule Nigeria for another four years at Aso Rock later this year.
